Calling all “Purged” Gamers

So Jules Hardy, a personality I didn’t even know existed until today, has called upon her like-minded game developer allies to commit the final purge of gamers. I can’t stop laughing!

It’s the final countdown!

Step 1 – Consult with game developers to not make games for “privileged-white-male” gamers.

Step 2 – get all the journalists to attack “privileged-white-male” gamers.

Step 3 – Initiate the #FinalPurge!

Well, there will be a final purge.

No AAA game studio that will “purge” at least 40% of potential gamers will survive!

Let’s do some math.

If you make a game that costs $100 million dollars. And you sell 5 million copies for total sales of $200 million dollars. That is about $100 million in profit. Now, you alienate 40% of your customer base with the “Final Purge” – that turns sales from $200 million to about $120 million dollars. That’s only a $20 million dollar profit. That literally reduces your profits by 80%

What a great move, worthy to be copied forever!

If this isn’t the worst, bizarre, and incomprehensible marketing move ever, then I must really live under a rock!

This is so execrable, I believe future generations of marketers will look at these marketing moves as the most ludicrous ones ever made in the name of social progress to have ever been penned.

Okay, where does that leave us?

Again, Indie and AA studios are the way.

Where game developers and gamers work in collaboration to create something that gamers will love and play. Like I said, this is the future of most marketing. Small niche products for a small group of fans, but there’s 1000s, a product for virtually everyone.

If they want to alienate “privileged-white-male” gamers, then they’re sending me an audience to my game. I’m not afraid of them –

So, let them purge, I’ll pick up the slack!
