Good lives require making good decisions that pay off in the long run.
One of the best decisions you can make is to take self-care seriously.
Treat yourself like you are someone you are responsible for their welfare.
Every morning I wake up at 7 am to get my pup his heart medication. When my alarm starts playing my wake up song, he looks at me, “Daddy, I need my medicine”.

I can take care of him because I take care of myself!
In the 2010s, social media distracted us from the fact that the best way to change the world is to change our lives. We were so much in everyone’s business that we forgot.
Then we demanded the world change instead of taking care of ourselves – like eating right, drinking plenty of water, exercising, practising good mental health strategies, and getting plenty of sleep.
Eating well
Recently, my fiancée and I had a bad experience at Mcdonald’s. We had a meal while we waited for our pup at the groomers. By 8 pm, I was puking my guts out. I thought, wow, we should not have clown burgers anymore.
I can make my Hamburgers, and I have already given a recipe for fries, I love them. It is super easy to make better choices. They say eating healthy is expensive. One meal at McDonald’s is $20, and you can make ten burgers with fries for each burger for about the same price, lol!
A proper diet has so many positives to it. Extra energy, better memory, better immune systems, faster healing.

Sugary and high-fat diets are linked to cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.
Your choice, but if you are writing the great Canadian novel or a story about how messed up the Internet is, you better start taking care of yourself.
Drinking Water

Honestly, I can not praise how remarkable drinking water helps enough. I have about 2l a day, and it helps me focus, my energy levels, and so much more.
Sure, I have coffee in the morning, but I drink water through my mornings, lunch and afternoon. I have glass of milk for dinner.
Sugary drinks, Well, want to reduce your energy levels, gain weight, and slowly lose your cognitive capacity, sure, go for it.
I pour one of my 500ml sports bottles just before going to bed with some ice. I drink half before I go to bed and half when I wake up – and it helps my sleep. I hydrate myself fully by 8am to be on my best.
I do not know about you, but writing and creative work take a lot of brain work, so you should be drinking lots of water every day!
Exercise
Exercise releases positive endorphins in the brain that help the brain repair itself, so the myth that you can either have brains or brawn is a myth. Intelligent people exercise to keep their intelligence!

Exercise helps your intelligence and gives you more energy, more focus, and better overall health!
Imagine how much more energy, focus, intelligence, and better health you will have if you eat right, drink water and exercise every day.
Sleep
Poor sleep habits are linked to Alzheimer’s and other kinds of dementia.
The brain ca not heal itself and get rid of toxins if we do not get a good night’s sleep.
Once I changed my mind and started go to bed by 10:30 pm instead of 11:30 am, I function better at work.
A good night’s sleep helps with your concentration, energy levels, and memory. Can you see the compounding of taking care of yourself? Do not push yourself to the point you start losing control of your life. Working too long and staying up later leads to burnout.

Mental Health
First, try to limit your time on social media. We all know that social media algorithms will push posts to provoke us into interacting. Do not fall into a pit where people exploit your emotions for their benefit, who could not care less if you lost your life over nonsense.
Still, happiness can be a bit of a distraction, do not forget to add to the world as the world blesses you with good feelings.
Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts, feelings and ideas. At the end of my day, I journal about my day at work and what I have done because I want to know my fears to work them out.
Then I pray.
Find a way to “Sharpen” your axe – it is a strategy for a highly successful person…

I will be more detailed about why this is so important in the next blog on self-reflection.
Learning to let things go, ignore bad news and never take things personally are essential parts of maturing, so find proper mental health strategies to lower your stress level.
Taking care of yourself, eating right, drinking water, exercising, sleeping well and finding good mental health strategies to help you deal with the ups and downs in life can help you propel your life.
Taking care of yourself may be the greatest good you can achieve right now. Taking care of yourself leads to taking care of others because you will be more present.
So, take care of yourself like you are someone you are responsible for taking care for their welfare.
If you want to have the energy, drive, focus and intelligence to be creative all your life, taking care of yourself and “sharpening your axe” is essential, IMO.
